As more and more family members get Illumina runs, or 23&Me and AncestryDNA CHIP exome data it may be useful to link family members (agreed upon by both parties) on Open Humans. This was an option on PGP. My mother for example is on her third fitbit because she wears them out (not the case, though if you want an excellent knock off I have a suggestion), she never got a PGP run but did the #DNADay Ancestry sale, and bought a kit for herself and my brother. As open humans grows, would it be useful to either publicly (if you so chose) or for research applications indicate familial links in OpenHuman profiles? My brother and I have vastly different body types/builds/metabolisms, he has a step tracker, I have a step tracker, we both have wifi scales, and will in a week or so have Maternal and two sons DNA (exome) and steps/weight going into OpenHumans. I don't think either of us count calories, though I am vegan and he is "what is at hand/free".
How does the community feel about these options?
1) Would you like to link familial accounts for research purposes
2) Would you like to link familial accounts publicly
3) I think there should always be an "anonymous" option
Re, the anonymous part, multiple studies have ID'ed PGP participants (Not allowed to post links @mpball can you fix these):
I do however believe it would benefit researchers to be able to link all of our, though I can absolutely see the fun some would see in building family trees on OpenHumans.
