Read this forum thread for instructions on how to open a VTT file. Any text editor, such as Apple TextEdit for Mac and Microsoft Notepad for Windows, can be used to open and edit VTT files. A VTT file can easily dragged into any web browser to view its contents.

Use a VTT file as a subtitle track in VLC Media Player.

  1. Start the video you wish to use with the VTT file.

  2. Open the menu bar of VLC Media Player.

  3. After selecting Subtitles, click on Add Subtitle File.

  4. Select the saved .vtt file and enjoy the captioned video.
