Trying to connect the dots: Health, Genetics, and Self-Research

Hi everyone, my name is Kayla. I’m new to the
Keating Memorial self-research group and really
excited to be here.

I’ve been actively working on understanding my
own health for some time now, as I have ongoing
medical issues that haven’t yet been fully explained
or diagnosed. Through that process, I’ve started
collecting and analyzing my own data-including
medical records, lab trends, and genetic
information-in an effort to identify patterns and
better advocate for myself.

In addition to my personal goals, I’m also very
interested in the broader research side of things. I
have access to a fairly unique set of data across
multiple related individuals, which has allowed me
to start exploring things like variability in genetic
expression and how different factors may influence
outcomes. Being able to observe these patterns in
real time has been both challenging and really
meaningful.

I’m hoping to continue building on what I’ve
started, improve how I organize and interpret my
data, and connect with others who are doing
similar work. I’m especially interested in learning
more about best practices for self-research and
how to translate findings into something useful in
both research and clinical contexts.
